Chimney inserts will reduce your carbon production

Our home came with a screened open fireplace. We appreciate the mood of a fire and the extra warmth it brings to our living room during the colder months of the year. However, it is inefficient, difficult, and potentially hazardous if sparks travel through the screen.

When I started looking for fireplace inserts, I was shocked and embarrassed to find that an open fireplace, like the one we have, generates 50-60 grams of emissions for every hour of use. A chimney insert that satisfies 2020 emission regulations, on the other hand, emits 2 grams of emissions per hour. (In one hour, one cigarette would release the equivalent of one gram.) Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur oxide, and nitrogen oxides are among the pollutants released.
